From the desk of Lori Lipsky:
I’m excited to be one of 34 contributing authors of Snapshots of Hope & Heart: A 12-Week Devotional to Shine the Light on God’s Word. Three of the pieces I submitted to the collective were selected to be included:
- With All My Heart
- Crying Out for Help
- Friends of the Heart
The devotional book is a WordGirls collective. According to Kathy Carlton Willis, founder of WordGirls, the book seeks to “deliver word pictures of hope and heart to save to your mind’s photo album. In that frame of reference, the Bible is the faith family album deserving to be passed down through the generations.”
The thirty-four contributors to the book hail from California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and South Sudan in Africa.
Wit, Whimsy and Wisdom was the first published WordGirl devotional collective, and Snapshots of Hope & Heart is the second. Read more about Wit, Whimsy & Wisdom here. Both devotional books were released in 2021. They can be purchased on Amazon.

My first book, Used Cookie Sheets, is now available for purchase. It’s a thrill to be able to hold forty-five of my published stories bound together in a single book. I hope you’ll join me in celebrating.
Twelve years ago, my friend Robin Steinweg decided to form a small writer’s group and she invited me to join. We named our group Friends of the Pen. I began to write short stories and poetry and would submit at least one story or poem a month for the other members to read and critique. Sometimes I’d submit a handful or more.
Now, more than a decade has passed. Each one of us has moved from unpublished to published. If you like, check out our author pages on Amazon:
In Used Cookie Sheets you’ll peek into the minds and hearts of memorable characters. You’ll travel with these new friends from farm to library café to Nepal and back to their own
neighborhoods.
You’ll witness:
- A brother who gives his sister the birthday gift of another year of life
- The empowering effect of a dad’s nap on his daughter
- A wife fleeing home with her three daughters
- A boy whose great misfortune is a last name beginning with Z
- The impact of an unkept promise
- A widow’s life repurposed
- The domino effect of deception by omission
What reviewers say
From Bobbi Jean: My favorite story was “The Kiss.” I giggled for a good five minutes.
From Tracie: A few of my favorite stories are “The Interrogation Consistency,” “A Stay with Joyce,” and “The Recuperation.” The first story was surprising and humorous, the second heartwarming, and the last was hopeful and encouraging.
From Hally: Writing short, meaningful stories with such an economical use of words is an art! Lori landed it!
